Wednesdays in the Tower - by Jessica Day George

Wednesdays in the Tower  by Jessica Day George

My Rating:  3 of 5 Stars

Our favorite castle is back!  Despite Celie’s efforts to understand castle glower it is just as mysterious as ever.  Why has the castle been adding so many rooms?  Where do the rooms come from and why has an uninvited wizard come to “cure” it?   After Celie finds a strange egg in the tower she begins to care for it, but when the egg finally hatches… well that is where the adventure begins.
Jessica Day George has written a delightful addition to her first book Tuesdays at the castle.  With each new turn of a page young girls will be sharing Celie’s passion to learn Castle Glowers origins and secrets.

Seeds of Rebellion (Beyonders, #2)

Seeds of Rebellion (Beyonders, #2)Seeds of Rebellion by Brandon Mull

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jason has to find a way back to Lyrian to inform his friends of the vital information shared with him. Once he is rejoined with his comrades he again embarks on the quest to defeat the evil wizard that is conquering the land of Lyrian piece by piece. The task is not without risk, hardship, or losses, but if they could just find out if it is even possible to defeat Maldor then they will have the one thing they need most. Hope.

Brandon Mull is an excellent writer. His fresh stories are why he has become one of my favorite authors these days. It seems that often a fantasy tale will stick to the same old Lord of the Rings remake. Eragon and The Sword of Shannara for example. Yet Mull always strikes out on an unpredictable route, and isn’t that what we really want?

In Beyonders #2 Brandon Mull does not disappoint. I love Ferrin the displacer, Aram, and the races of the Amar Kabal, and Drinlings. They are different, interesting and creative. True, I can get a little bored when reading the introductions to a new character, but I can also see why Mull has his lengthy intros, and truthfully it’s all part of his style. I believe this is why Mull's later books are better than the first, with all those pesky intros behind us we are free to fall into Mull's fabulous storytelling and ready for adventure.

"Beastly" by Alex Flinn

BeastlyBeastly by Alex Flinn

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a modern take on Beauty and the Beast, only from the beasts point of view. While there are no surprises in the story I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did.

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette

The Penderwicks at Point Mouette (The Penderwicks, #3)The Penderwicks at Point Mouette by Jeanne Birdsall

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Penderwicks have more adventures when they travel to Main for a vacation. Only this time Skye, the second Penderwick child, is in charge. The trip is a roller coaster ride loaded with life changing, growing up, challenges that could only happen to the Penderwick sisters.

The Penderwicks are the perfect modern version of the March family, from Little Women. Girls can delight, relate, and more importantly, learn from the sisters in some very real events.

I wonder if there will be more?
